*The Informal Decoding Inventory of Alphabetic Principles (IDI)

The IDI is one of the most popular features of our book! It allows teachers to assess their whole class at once to determine the level of phonics skills of each student. After giving five short oral tests, the teacher makes note of student results on the inividual student tracking sheets (included with the IDI). Those sheets allows teachers to group their students effectively within the first week or two of school. It then becomes the map for differentiated instruction for the rest of the year. Also included is a Progress-monitoring Tool that corresponds to the phonics concepts listed on the IDI making it simple for teachers to assess whether their students are ready to move on, or need more practice on specific concepts.
