About the Book

Why You Need This Book!

Teachers are expected to do more and more with less and less. They need “Help!”

“Help, I Can’t Read!”

How to Respond to Struggling Readers in Your Classroom

A Simplified Guide to Successful "Response to Intervention" (RTI)

From its not-so-serious-cover to its amazing appendix tools,

teachers will see the difference!

Complete - It covers the “Response to Intervention/Instruction” (RTI) process from assessment to interventions for every reading strand, plus we include writing interventions (handwriting, spelling, and composition).

Simplified - Where other publishers go deep with many long, detailed books on each individual reading topic, “Help!” focuses on only “the best of the best” as determined through Carol Fitzpatrick ten years of successful RTI experience.

Effective - For several years in a row, Carol’s struggling readers averaged two and a half years’ growth in reading ability using the methods given in this book.

Practical - It is grounded on reasonable methods that work and have proven to be time-efficient.   It even contains a whole-group assessment for all levels of alphabetic principles (phonics), with a corresponding tool for progress-monitoring.

Accessible - It is written by a teacher for teachers. Carol knows how tired teachers are at the end of the day. This book is easy to understand, easy to use, and easy to adapt to the needs of specific students.

Affordable - Through careful planning, we have kept the cost down. Publishers have told us we should be charging much more, but we want to help as many teachers as possible.

*The Informal Decoding Inventory of Alphabetic Principles (IDI)

The IDI is one of the most popular features of our book! It allows teachers to assess their whole class at once to determine the level of phonics skills of each student. After giving five short oral tests, the teacher makes note of student results on the inividual student tracking sheets (included with the IDI). Those sheets allows teachers to group their students effectively within the first week or two of school. It then becomes the map for differentiated instruction for the rest of the year. Also included is a Progress-monitoring Tool that corresponds to the phonics concepts listed on the IDI making it simple for teachers to assess whether their students are ready to move on, or need more practice on specific concepts.
